WIND ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

Eligibility

Open to anyone who will be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the 2025/26 school year. Students are strongly encouraged to have taken at least one year of band at BSHS before auditioning for Wind Ensemble. Incoming 9th graders must make an audition appointment by emailing Mr. Fraze at jordan.fraze@hcps.net.

Selection Process

Prepared Audition: Students will be asked to play the following in an audition for Mr. Fraze

​

2 major scales selected from Concert Db, Ab, Eb, Bb, F, C, G – announced at audition. Students should play the number of octaves they are most comfortable playing. Scale Sheets can be found here.

​

Chromatic scale – A chromatic scale, (in 1 minute or less) from memory, covering the specific range for their instrument (as given in the requirements here). The scale will be performed in even eighth notes. A suggested tempo is MM = 144. The scale will be tongued ascending and slurred descending where applicable.

​

Prepared etude – Students must perform the prepared etude up to rehearsal #4. Playing beyond rehearsal 4 is encouraged but not required.

Sight Reading – to be selected from Habits of a Successful Musician

Prior Experience in Program

All aspects of each auditioning student will be considered including, but not limited to: involvement in other ensembles, quality of work in previous ensembles, leadership involvement, maturity, work ethic, and all aspects of involvement with the Bloomingdale Bands to date.

Auditions

Auditions will begin on Monday, April 14th and will take place during band classes. Students must submit an audition intent form prior to audition found below.
